PKR Poker Software V1.3

PKR has updated their famous video game-like software adding many new features!

One of the new features is called PKR Pal, this little guy manages PKR poker installations, upgrades, and updates all while you play, so that you wont have to wait for updates to install before you can login and play poker anymore! PKR Pal isn't nosy, and doesn't collect personal information while installed on your PC.

PKR has also added new emoticons and moods! Some of the emotes are in the game menu, whilst others are hidden within the software and can only be accessed via '/' commands, such as /typical. Poker players are especially excited about the addition of emotes that will work while your player is standing, if you switch tables, or games, the emote is not lost.

You can also create your own emotes! If you're familiar with IRC (Internet relay chat) then you'll likely recognize the /me command. If you haven't ever chatted in an IRC Chatroom /me is kind of a way to speak in the third person. For instance, try "/me is the poker king!!!" and your name will replace /me so if you're say, Phil Ivey, you will say "Phil Ivey is the Poker King!!!" in the poker chat.

PKR has also introduced new voices and has announced that even more voices will be offered in the very near future.

PKR has also finally stepped up to the year 2007 with poker player notes, notice something about another player, a tell, or just want to note a fish, or shark, slow player etc. PKR now offers the note taking feature. To access player notes, click on your opponents name and choose 'notes' insert your notes and hit enter. Once you've saved the note that player will have a special symbol next to their name indicating to you in the future that you have left a note on this player.
And if you don't want your bad decisions rubbed in your face, you can also opt to hide your folded cards, this option is available at the bottom of the game tab in your options menu under game.

Additional PKR Changes allow the purchase of tournament entry tickets with your PKR points directly from the PKR shop, and Moneybookers has been added as a PKR Account funding source!

Who's Playing at PKR Poker?

With $1,470,242.93 wagered at PKR's online poker tables on August 17, 2007 (up from $2,591.48 the same day in 2006) someone is playing at PKR. So who are they? A report published recently shows us that of the 48,416 people that logged in on August 17 this year, more than 80% of them were men, in fact there are 828,918 registered male poker players on PKR, compared to just 74,612 female PKR poker players (8.2%).

PKR is definitely what we'd consider a global poker room, with poker players gambling amongst each other at the tables from more than 236 countries around the world. 22% of PKR's registered players, totaling 199,605 poker players are from the United Kingdom, another 16.1% from the Netherlands, 8.4% of PKR's registered players are logging onto the poker room from Germany. 7.5% from France, and the fifth largest represented country at PKR is Canada, with 49,897 registered players representing 5.5% of PKR's total registered poker players online.

The video game theme offered by PKR is pretty popular with the younger generation, and I'm happy to report, that looking at the numbers, as they're reported, I am a part of the younger generation! Even in my 30's! The average poker player fighting it out across PKR's poker tables is between 18 and 35, and male. The primary reasons that PKR poker is so popular with this group include amazing graphics (really!) and technology that is very customizable, and player interaction.

PKR Featured on the Big Screen

PKR has come to an agreement with Carlton Screen and Pearl & Dean to feature their poker site at showings of Lucky You, a brand new poker film releasing in Europe. The sponsorship agreement states that PKR gets the 30 second Silver Sponsor spot before the film plays.

The movie is playing on over 450 screens throughout Europe, and with countless showings at each screen you can imagine how many people will be exposed to PKR's 30 second advertisement. Also, PKR should see success from this campaign because the movie is a poker movie, so the audience will be very targeted.

Lucky You stars Drew Barrymore and Eric Bana, and is directed by Curtis Hanson. Besides these major players in the entertainment industry, the film also has cameo appearances from some of the world's biggest poker players including Phil Helmuth Jr., Daniel Negreanu, and Johnny Chan.

PKR is optimistic about this campaign, and Simon Prodger, Marketing Director at PKR, stated the following:

"Showcasing the PKR.com brand alongside Lucky You, the biggest poker movie to appear in years, makes absolute sense and allows us to reach up to a million poker fans in an engaging and high-impact manner. We're confident that the big screen will maximize the impact of our stunning graphics and unique game play bringing thousands of new players to our game."

This is exciting news for PKR, and we're anxious to see the results of the campaign. This should be good news for all of us!
